Footprints

DSC04648

Step lightly
To do as little harm
As we step forward
In a world teeming with life

DSC04690

Time and the forces of nature
May erase some of our former steps
But there are more than 7 billion of us

DSC07990
Ever stepping forward
Ever the desire
Ever the need for more

DSC07988c

Our footprints become heavier
As we mar the ground beneath our feet
Ever harming more living things
Those that are not us

DSC01632-2

The steps of the past are still there
If we look behind

DSC01565ab
It is to our next steps
To our children, and to theirs’
To learn
To teach

P1030182
To step lightly
And do as little harm
In a world teeming with life
For it shouldn’t be only about us

Kicking Leaves Again

DSC06498
The trees are bare
Yet no trace of a season remains
Raked and bagged, it is no more

DSC08279
Except in my little plot of this earth
Where the leaves still swirl
Lifted by the November gales

IMG_0932
The energy spend of a summer season
Will remain, food for the life in the soil

Statue

It will again
Be the the green of our next growing season

DSC08279
For now I will be out kicking leaves
Until the snows of winter
Blankets the fall and prepares for a coming spring

Hibernation

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Hibernation
It is a matter of orbits and tilts
Of light verses dark
Warm over cold
A means of survival

DSC01157b

To flourish
When all things seem alive
To hibernate
When life is frozen against the low angle light

DSC03399

Each morning the sun moves along the horizon
It is that season
As day equals night

EHane-SkunkCabbage-web500crop

To awaken
Out of a den
To emerge from the mud
Or beneath the matted leaves
Whether the earth is ready or not

DSC06243a

Life is stirred
Weaken, yet hopeful
To what life offers ahead

Weekly Photo Challenge: Converge

DSC06137

Clouds travel on the winds
Releasing its’ burden
In uncounted drops
That fall to the earth
To be adsorbed
To move on the surface
To evaporate back to the sky
Seeps and seasonal streams
Flow downward
To join with
Brooks and streams
To form a river
Ever flowing
Down the contorts of land
River meets rivers
As they make their way
And converge with the sea
To move outward
To sink down
Or upward
To create more clouds
In the cycles unbroken

Curious Friday: A Matter of Design

DSC07274a

Look around
Life made of small patterns
Small designs
Woven into the fabric
Of a world we see everyday
Easy to miss
One has to look close
Take the time
Yet when you see it
All the small patterns
All the small designs
The whole looks different
And maybe a better place

The picture above is of a fungus called Splash Cups or Bird Nest fungus – Crucibulum laevehe The fungus lives on decaying wood and the bird’s nest is the reproductive part. The little eggs inside are called peridoles that look like seeds but contain spores inside. The peridoles open and little drops of water splash into the cup spread the spores to surrounding areas.
They are usually only about a 1/4 inch in size.
