It’s hard to go through a moment of a day
Where we are not being sold the goods for a better life
Or ways to make more, to have more
Happiness in a material thing
Love in a scent and a look
In a world of haves and have-nots
What is it we truly need? or want?
You can have it all
So long as you pulled yourself up by your boot straps
For all those that didn’t
It is the hope to have food and drink on the table
A roof over your family’s head
Will we someday be willing
To give up what we have
So more may share?
Less be needed
Less be taken
Of what is around us
That cannot be bought?
And might that be a better life?
